Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Judgement against me.

I got a judgement against me for a credit card or loan that i got about 12 years back when i was going to collegge. Sence it was so long ago and it was past the 7 years that it should had been on my records why are they taking my money now. And, what can i do to reverse the judgement.

You left out the date of the judgment, which is crucial to understanding the problem.

Assuming you defaulted on the debt 12 years ago, they had 6 years from that time to bring a lawsuit an obtain a judgment, and 7 years (with the possibility of another 6 months) to report the debt on your credit report.

If they obtained a judgment within the 6 year time frame, that judgment is good for 20 years.

If they recently obtained the judgment, you probably have an action under the �Fair Debt Collection Practices Act�. The resolution of which, would most likely result in your getting the judgment vacated, and an award of money damages
