Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

mother died debt collectors harrassing me

My mother recently died and left nothing. I paid for her funeral and have taken care of her for the past 10 months as she has been terminally ill. Up until the evening she past...she was taking care of her own finances...just living with me free of charge. I have a collection agency calling me three times a day insisting that I am responsible for her debt. What can I do?

Re: mother died debt collectors harrassing me

I extend my sympathies on the loss of your Mother.

You are not responsible for your Mother's debt. Write them and tell them she passed and NOT TO CONTACT YOU anymore.

If (when) they do, document it and threaten to sue them under the FDCA.
