Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I have a past due hospital bill in the amount of $2,344, which I am now getting calls from a law office about. I am being told by people that a hospital is not able to sue regarding a past due bill, but it seems as though I am being brought to court by a law firm regarding it. Is it possible for a debt collector to take someone to court regarding medical bills?

The short answer is yes. A hospital, like any other entity providing a service, is entitled to be paid from the patient and may commence legal action to enforce payment.
