Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Hi. I need to know what type of lawyer I need and whether I need this lawyer in New York or Texas. My husband and I had a judgment of eviction against us in Texas in 2007. The landlord is a REIT and its operations are national. They received the judgment without our side of the story ever being heard despite that we were standing right there, and the statute of limitations on judicial misconduct is 30 days which we did not know. To make matters worse, the landlord was in the middle of renovating units in preparation to sell the property and they tacked on the cost of their renovation to our tab and slapped that on our credit report along with the judgment, citing $5,000 in damage on our part. We would now not be able to rent an apartment w/o paying a new landlord a LOT of money and we don't have a lot of money. We live in a neighborhood that is not safe for our children and we need to move. We need this removed entirely from our credit reports for a fair sum of money. Again, the questions are what type of attorney do we need and should this person be in Texas where we no longer live or in NY where we now live? Thank you very much.

If the Judgment is from Texas, you would need an attorney in Texas to reverse the Judgment (if that is possible).

Mike.
