Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Wage Garnishment

I just found out from my employee that wage garnishment is going to be enforced on me soon. Is there anyway to stop this before it happens and what is the maximum they can garnish

Re: Wage Garnishment

Wage garnishment is enforced by the Sheriff or Marshal, after a judgment has been entered against you. This is the most common method of execution upon judgments against judgment debtors.

New York's garnishment limit is 10% of your gross pay.

Of course, the way to stop this from occurring is to either vacate the judgment (look this up on google to find out what this means) or pay the amount of the judgment in order to satisfy that judgment.
