Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

My wife co-signed for college loans involving someone who lived with us for 8 years. recently we discovered that he was stealing from us. We had him leave our home and since then she has been receiving bills on these loans. Is there any way she can not be held responsible because of his theft against us.

Unfortunately the answer is no. You would have to seek indemnification from the individual that stole from you.
