Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

Entertainment - use of photos

My daughter was hired and paid to

be an actor in an upcoming SAG film.

Can she use photos in her publicity

materials from the production that

show her and other actors? Is their

permission needed?

Re: Entertainment - use of photos

Generally I agree with David Nance as this sort of provision is usually part of a contract negotiation. Sometimes "boilerplate" gives the actor the right to use photos from the production for their press kits. Producers or the photographers, however, who may own the pictures could get testy if they're not asked but other performers are usually not opposed to the very limited use to which you refer. I would, however, not use the photos outside of your daughter's press kit without asking the producer. I put a website in this category, too. Actors do this sort of thing all the time and I've never heard of it being an issue. The worst I've encountered is a request not to use the material.
