Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Disclosure of information when applying for a marriage liscense

Is it required to disclose information of a previous marriage (in VA) when applying for a marriage liscense in NY? How does the NY office verify, and what are the penalties of not including this information? Is this information printed on the marriage liscense?

Re: Disclosure of information when applying for a marriage liscense

Disclosure is required. So is production of a

certified copy of the divorce decree to ensure

that you have the legal capacity to marry.

Failure to do so is potentially fraud, and may

affect the validity of the marriage

If the reason for not wanting to disclose is

because your new spouse does not know, then maybe

the lack of forthrightness is an indication you

should not be marrying. Because they will find

out, and then the deceit will be worse than the

truth

If it is to avoid legal obligations from the first,

the federal courts will have a field day with you

when they catch up, and they will, via the

everpresent social security number, and taxes
