Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Joint Custody or Visitation

My girlfriend and I had a child together a little over two years ago. We have since decided that a realationship between the two of us is not working. We had an arrangement where she would bring my son to my home for visits. Now she has found another man and the visits have stopped. I am not sure where to start in the judicial system. Do I go for visitation at first and progress into joint custody?

Re: Joint Custody or Visitation

You can/should do both at the same time. You start at Family court by filing a petition. See forms on line at NY Unified Court System site.
