process server fee

in a divorce, when lawyer apppoint someone to serve the defendant with divorce paper. the fee the plaintinff has to pay is fixed price right? the lawyer cant charge the plaintiff on how long it took the server to give the paper to defendant ?

Ordinarily, if the lawyer hires an independent process server (which is most often the case) the lawyer passes along to the client the fee the process server charges.

Process servers charge fees that vary - some may charge a higher fee if the person being served evades service, causing the process server to have to spend more time making service.
