separation/divorce
I do not live with my husband for 4 years already. we have a daughter 9 years old living with me but he can see her when he wants. No legal action has been taken. I want a divore as soon as possible - he will agree. What do Ineed to do first and to get it done fast? How much would it cost - I don't have a lot of money

You need grounds to get divorced in NY. You may go to your local Supreme Court building and obtain an "uncontested divorce package" that will allow you to file for a divorce on your own. You may also get the package on-line at the NYS courts website. However, many people find this process too complicated and they seek an attorney's help.

An uncontested divorce can be obtained reasonably quickly, and, assuming both you and your husband are in agreement on issues like child support and distribution of any property, it won't be expensive.
