how to get a custody summon served

i need help on how to serve a summon on a defendant that lives out-of-state. i live in california and the defendant lives in new york. what agencies can i contact to have the papers served on him.

Have you tried to serve the defendant by mail? With an out-of-state defendant you actually don't have to personally serve them.
