F1 students and freelance jobs

Can a F1 (graduate) student have a freelance job like tutoring, writing, editing and web design? Specially when I don't get support from the university?

Re: F1 students and freelance jobs

You may be eligible for on-campus employment subject to certain restrictions. Inquire with your university. Off-campus employment is prohibited and will render you out-of-status. Either during or toward the end of your academic program you may also apply to USCIS for OPT (optional practical training) for up to 12 months. All other types of employment will require appropriate work-based visas and may jeopardize your F-1 visa. Contact an immigration attorney if you have further questions.
