Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Traveling after Interview

I applied to adjust my status to perminent resident. We are scheduled for our interview on January 27, 2009. We are planning to travel back to my home country on February 6,2009. I would like to know if this would be possible. Can I travel outside the country right after the interview, with the suspision that they will ''aprove'' me right after the interview. Do they need to stamp my passport before I can leave, which will mean, that they will keep my passport with them, and mail it to me when it is ready?

I am asking all these questions, because of the tight schedule we are one seeing that we want to travel outside USA 10 days after the interview.

Re: Traveling after Interview

You have not provided enough information to answer your question. It depends on how you entered the country, when you entered the country and the basis for your green card. Other important factors include whether your application will be approvable when you attend the interview at the CIS office and the CIS office at which you interview is held.

Re: Traveling after Interview

Please provide more information as to your basis for adjustment, whether did you stayed at any time period out of status, do you have an advance parole. If you case is approved, they will stamp your passport and give it back to you right away.
