Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I want to apply for RN license in ny. I want to know if I must report my misdemeanor from 10 years ago. It was for shoplifting and I'm concerned they would deny my application because of that indiscretion. I had read online that after 10 years it was not necessary to report but this concerns my future career. Please help. Thank you.

It would be best to make full disclosure on such an application. Failure to make full disclosure will be a bar to your application if the conviction is discovered. With that in mind, it would also be best that you contact an attorney specializing in employment law prior to final submission of your application. Finally, if you are denied the license there is an appeal process where you would have a full hearing for a determination of a character fitness.
