Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

paycheck direct deposit only

My employer states that by 1-1-06 we must have a bank account and all payroll checks will be direct deposit. I don't want a bank account. Can they force me to have one in order to be paid?

No, but if it is a condition of employment, you do not have an employment contract or are not a member of a union, they can probably require it as a condition of continued employment.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.
