Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I have been paying my neighbor cash to care for my pets when I am out of town and at work for long hours. Now she is requesting a letter stating I have been her employer- this isnt really my idea of our relationship- any suggestions

Generally speaking (and this is not NY State specific) one who performs services of this nature and has her own business is an independent contractor. However, if you provide dog walking services to others, control the manner and method of her work, and provide tools etc, you could be deemed to be her employer. I represent several dog walking companies here in Illinois. My hope is that a New York attorney will chime in here to clarify if there are any New York laws that would make this person your employee. Good luck.
