Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I just received a raise amounting to $2100 annually. My last increase was May 2010. I am a legal assistant and my employer put a condition on receiving the raise (I must backup the receptionist when needed). This is totally disrespectful to me. I have been a loyal employee for 16 years and this is unacceptable. Please advise.

Would you rather have respect or a job? Unless you have a contract of employment, ie; Union, etc., you are an at-will employee and your failure to follow non-disriminatory directives of your employer could subject you to being discharged.
