Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Is salary reduction legal?

Hi Brendan,

My salary is mentioned 65K/year on the offer letter I got from this employer. They told me that their client is holding a lot of payments so they are reducing my salary along with other employees. They got my signature though on a paper for reducing my salary. Is it legal to reduce the salary what is mentioned in offer letter and H1B visa papers (the min. wages mentioned is 65K/year) they sent to Labour and INS during my H1B transfer.

Re: Is salary reduction legal?

From what little you have told me thus far, an employer cannot unilaterally reduce your salary if you have already contracted for a specific salary. I am not comfortable trading emails on an important issue such as the one you present. Furthermore, my services are not free. If you would like to set up an appointment to discuss your options, please call me.
