Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

If you have a injury case that was referred by an attorney to another attorney, and the case finally gets settle, are you responsible for fees for both attorneys?

The fee is the same for both attorneys, usually 1/3 of the total settlement amount; the attorneys will split the 1/3 fee between themselves, the client should get 2/3 of the total, minus expenses, if any.

The retainer you signed governs the legal fees, no matter how many lawyers are involved in your case. If you don't have a copy, ask for it. Best, M. E. Zuller

No it is usually 1/3 of the total settlement (except in Med Mal cases) regardless if it is one attorney or 500 attorneys who worked on your case.
