abandoned vehicle
I purchased a boat from a private auction with no title. It was sold by a landlord who said it was abandoned by a tenant 3 yrs earlier. Can I file a claim in small claims court to prove possesion & ownership to obtain a title from the DMV? Has this ever been done by a landlord to obtain ownership of a vehicle? or is there some other action to take?

Jurisdiction in small claims court is only for money judgments.

The first thing that I would do is contact DMV and inquire about the registration process. Explain the manner by which the boat was purchased.

If DMV states that you must commence an action to quiet title on the boat, you must commence the action in Supreme Court for declaratory judgment.
