Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

house for sale

My daughter just rented 1 part of a legal 2 fam. home, signed a 1 year lease and now the house is up for sale less than 1 month after signing the lease. Is this legal? Should she start looking for another place to live?

Assuming your daughter has a validly signed lease, the new owner will be bound by its terms. Accordingly, your daughter should be able to stay there for the term of the lease.

The landlord should have in good faith warned your daughter that the house will be up for sale. The potential buyer will have to assume all the rights and responsibilities included in your daughter's lease.
