Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York
Husband and wife own apartment building. We rented apartment and signed lease giving first months rent and security deposit and paid broker a fee. Now the two are divorcing and the husband who's name is not on the lease but is part owner of the building tells us all future rent payments go to him. Broker friend of wife witnessed the lease signing.

Before giving him the rent I would check with the wife.
Always write check, no cash. This way you have proof of payment.
Until resolved you can deposit the money into an attorney trust ACCT and give written notice to the landlord as to the monies whereabouts.
