Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

For the past ten years, I have been paying a family member's mortgage to keep her from bankruptcy, under the promise that when the house sold, I would recouperate my loan. I have now learned that she misinformed me on the house's equity and if it were to be sold I would only stand to gain 1/8th of what I have put in. She has been diagnosed with a debilitating illness and her daughter has obtained power of attorney. And she is a very vicious woman who is poor-off financially. Once the property is sold, what hopes do I have of getting anything at all back?

Do you have the "promise" in writing? You may have certain lien rights that you may want to put on the house now. It cannot be sold unless the lien is satisfied. The daughter will have to deal with you.

Pursue your equitable lien. A lawsuit is required.
