Legal Question in Social Security Law in New York

Son 30 living at home

My son came home to live after alcohol rehab. He attended a local Community College for 2 years and will be graduating this spring. My husband and I have three minor children, all on SSI for Autism. My husband makes less than $15,000 per year and has expenses owning a business. Last year my son made about $1,200 and my husband says that the SS laws have changed and we can no longer allow my son to live with us, especially if he makes any income, as this will count against us. Up to this point, he has lived on grants and loans and we have given him a free room and utilities. He has had to provide his own food. Is it true that our household, (no matter the size or age of the people) can not have an income above $15,500 or it will reduce our other childrens payments? Is there anything I can suggest as a compromise for our situation so we do not create a crisis for my son?
