Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

My adaptive grandparents recently passed away. I was adapted by their daughter when I was only 4 yrs old. My adaptive mother died when I was only ten but stayed in contact with my adaptive grandparents only until the last few years of their life. After my mother passed they had moved in with us for several years and after they moved out we would still see them several times a year including all the major holidays. First my grandmother passed away followed by my grandfather. Other than my mother that had passed over 20yrs ago the only surviving child they had is my uncle... He recently read my grandfathers will to the surviving grandchildren both adapted and direct bloodline. My grandfather in the will left everything to my uncle and his two children leaving myself and two other adapted siblings out of the will completely. My uncle then asked we all sign a statement that the will was read to us which I did not since I wasnt in attendance and refuse to.? Under NY law am I entitled to anything and if not why would he want me to sign anything. I also believe their is pending litigation involving an accident my grandfather had before he passed away which may lead to a big settlement..

Q. Under NY law am I entitled to anything

A. If the will is deemed valid, the answer would be no. If the will is not deemed valid, you would be entitled to your decedent mother's share of your grandfather's estate.

Q. if not why would he want me to sign anything

A. I assume that your Uncle would want you to wavie your right to contest the will.

Mike.
