Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Nigeria

My father passed in 2001 in america....my aunt from nigeria tells my older brother that the house is waiting for him to claim. how can we claim our fathers house in lagos nigeria while we are in america?

Need to know if your father died testate or intestate (i.e. if he died leaving a will or without a will). If he died leaving a will, then you would need to process the grant of probate after paying the probate fees to the state government where the property is located.

Should he have died without a will, then you and your siblings would need to instruct a Nigerian lawyer to assist in processing the Letters of Administration (LA). Once the LA is issued after payment of the necessary fees to the state government, then the property would be transferred to the administrators of the estate (which I believe would be you and your sibling/s).
