Legal Question in Business Law in North Carolina

My son and I are forming a general partnership. Do we have to use our last names as the name of the business and the file a DBA, or can we just name the business what we would call it in the DBA? Very confusing - not much info on the internet to help. THANK YOU!!!

A DBA stands for Doing Business As. So if it's a partnership and the name of the business is CAFE EXPRESS, the dba would be __________ (name of your partnership), doing business as Cafe Express. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.
