credit card accounts

my father recently passed away making my mom sole survivor. he did not have any pension other than social security. is my mom legally responsible for his credit card account balances?

Not necessarily but you had better make sure she didn't sign the application. I had a situation where the wife thought the credit card was only in her husband's name but the credit card started sending her the bills once her husband passed away. After numerous correspondence back and forth, they sent me the original application and they both had signed it.
