Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

Hi, My husband and I had the same doctor.I had insurance and he didn't. My insurance company paid my bill and this doctor's took me to court for my husband's bill. a judgement was rendered against me and my husband. Is this Legal?

Yes it is. The rule in North Carolina is that a spouse is liable for the other spouse's medical bills. So it was up to yopr husband to pay for his medical care. If he didn't, then the doctor could sue you and your husband.

If you were properly served, then you ignored the lawsuit and now a judgment has been entered. What you do now will depend on your circumstances and assets/debts. How much is the judgment? Are you able to resolve this in any way? Does it make sense to file bankruptcy? Did you have proper nptice of the lawsuit and can it be challenged at all?

You will have to think about these questions. If you have lots of debts, maybe you wish to file bankruptcy. If you have legal grounds, maybe you can get the judgment opened. If the debt is small and manageable, maybe you are able to resolve this in some fashion.
