If you are an at will employee - which you most likely are, you can be fired for any reason except for protected reasons such as race, gender, religion, etc. The issue then becomes if you are fired, can you collect unemployment. If you are fired without good cause for a reason such as the boss no longer wants to look at your ugly face or the company is downsizing, you will be eligible for unemployment. If you are fired for what is know as 'good cause' such as being a Theivey McTheiverton you will be ineligible for unemployment and possibly subject to criminal charges. Most likely larceny by employee instead of embezzlement because the property taken was in lost and found and not technically the property of the employer but rather was property held by the employer In a sort of bailment situation.
