Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

Interstate Compact

My son had a CO charge and has been on probation transfer to NC. He was arrested at his probation visit 5/14/09 in Wake County, NC for probabation violation as he was behind in restitution. How long can they keep him in NC if CO doesn't answer a response to them? This was for a 2007 charge and no new charges, and was not a violent or sexual crime. What are the chances they will extradite or release?
