Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

'Hi,

I was just wondering if an 18 yr. old files a petition to dissolve an adoption, after being officially adopted when she was 17, on what grounds will the judge grant the termination of the adoption? and would she have to find a place to live on her own or would she be placed in the foster care system? And Is the state required to take her back in and provide her with a place to stay during the hearing process? Thanks! '.

Why would this be done? Adoptions are not reversed unless the adoption was improperly entered or there was some fraud An 18 year-old is a legal adult. The state no longer cares about people who are adults in the sense that there is no longer a duty to care for the person (assuming that we are talking about non-handicapped or mentally challenged persons).

Without knowing more about the situation, I cannot give better advice. You sound like a child who was adopted and for whatever reason no longer wishes to live with your adopted family. While that is your choice, the court is not going to reverse the adoption. You can be be adopted by anyone else if they wish to adopt you. You also can change your name, legally, to anything that you want. However, I don't see a reason, based on what you have stated, to reverse an adoption.
