Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

step parents

How much legal stature are step parents given? My ex husband lets his wife do the communicating, yet it always ends up that we bicker and she is not a nice person. I never recieve any kind of parental support from him-he has not talked to me in a year. We have joint custody but I have physical custody.

Re: step parents

Unless the step-parent has legally adopted the child, they have no legal status whatsoever. Step-parents and step-children create one of the most problematic situations in a marriage relationship.

As for support, see your local child support enforcement agency and they will help you for a small fee (sometimes only $25).

You might want to consider a motion asking the court to require both parents to attend cooperative parenting to improve your communication.

Good luck!
