domain name dispute

i recently received a cease and desist order from a law firm regarding one of their clients. it seems they think LOFTCREATIONS.COM is too similar to ANNTAYLORLOFT.COM. i think this is ridiculas. am i crazy?

Unless you are using the site itself to trade on Ann Taylor products, or knockoffs, or otherwise using it in "bad faith," you should be OK. But you need to respond to this, and be prepared to defend your right to the domain name.

Most people with intellectual property rights want to expand the scope of those rights as much as possible, but I believe this is probably beyond the proper scope of their rights. You may never hear from them again, but if you do let me know and I'll tell you your options. For now, I would ignore their letter.
