Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

My father passed away in 1996 and I am just now selling his house. The deed cannot be located. How do I get a copy of the deed?

You don't need the actual deed to sell the house. The closing attorney will do a title search to verify that your father was the owner and that you are the correct heir to sell the property. But if you wanted to find the deed, go to your county's register of deeds office. You may be able to find it online too.
