vacation/sick time
can an employer legally use vacation and sick time earned for days off by doctor's orders, or is workman's comp required to pay for those days?

They are usually NOT supposed to use this earned benefit for wc time, but many injured workers allow it because it pays a higher wage and keeps other benefits from lapsing (like health ins. deductions, etc.).
Make sure you have filed a Form 18 with the NC Industrial Commission. Also, get a Form 33 and Bulletin while visiting their website. You can link to it from ncworkcomp.com.
