Legal Question in Employment Law in North Dakota

Paycheck withholding

I just quit from a collection company I worked at for a few weeks. It turns out I had some old debt with them I was unaware of. I cannot reach my boss and when I did speak with him at first, he sounded like he would hold my paycheck till I pay the debt. Is this legal?

Re: Paycheck withholding

Probably not. If the debt collector has a judgment, then it can lawfully garnish wages. If not, under federal law, you must get paid for your time of work.
