Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Ohio

Need time to pay medical bill

I was unaware of a 3 year old $250 medical bill until recently. The collection agency is pressuring me to pay immediately, and due to a work lay off I am unable to. I've made monthly payments in an attempt to settle this SMALL debt, but the company has now attached an $88 ''court costs'' fee, and is threatening to garnish my wages. What is the fee for, and how can I buy the time I need to pay the debt without having my credit ruined, and in payments I can afford?

Apply to your local municipal court for a trusteeship, so you might pay that entity at a level you can handle. That fee may be included in the "fine print" terms of the debt. Request a copy of the terms in writing from the creditor.
