Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Child Custody and Support

I am unmarried with a 7 month old son, and have recently moved out of the apartment I shared with the baby's father. Should I file for legal custody? Do I need to file for custody in order to obtain child support

Re: Child Custody and Support

You don't need to have custody for support. The local Child Support Enforcement Agency will get you support (eventually). But for your and the child's protection you should get custody. Once you have Custody, it is hard to change. If you don't initially have it things could get harder if he ever attempts to get custody, which he may once he finds out he will be paying support.
