Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Pregnant and Want to Move

I am five months pregnant, 22, single and have no relationship with the father of my unborn child. We broke up right after I found out I was pregnant. I have no insurance and he refuses to help me with any bills, but does want to be totally involved with the baby once it is born. He just doesnt want to help financially. I am having a very diffucult pregnancy and am relying on my parents for everything since I am not able to work. They are moving to Florida in April. I am due in June. Obviously, I have to go with them. My question is can I get into any trouble for leaving? Would the case be heard in Florida since the baby would be born there and I would live there or can he drag me back up here? I do not want to this move to jeopardize anything..Please help. Thankyou for your time.

Re: Pregnant and Want to Move

No court will have jurisdiction until the child is actually born, so you are free to move whereever you wish. The father must come to where you are to attempt to assert his rights.

No you won't get in trouble unles you violate a Court Order. The Court with jurisdiction will depend on who files first and where the baby has been living for the six months prior to the Court filing. Basically you control the situation until someone goes to Court to assert thier rights. Call if you have more questions
