Legal Question in Personal Injury in Ohio

I was staying at a friend's house- 1 night - in VA. Her dog got in my room and ate my dark chocolate. vet bill is 900.00 plus. Am I obligated to pay the vet bill. Dog is fine. Thank you.

You have no legal obligation to pay for the vet bill unless you were negligent or somehow left the chocolate in a position that was reasonably likely to allow the dog to get to the chocolate. As a guest at your friends it would be extremely difficult for them to prove that you are legally liable for the vet bill. They have an obligation to control their pets within their home and to warn or guard against the pet injury guests or the pet consuming something that you innocently left in your room. If you feel some moral obligation that is different than legal obligation but from what you described to me and recognizing that I do not practice law in Virginia( and Virginia might have a different law or statute on this type of situaton) I do not see that you would be legally responsible.
