Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

fence line

we have lived in our house for 8 years and built a fence 6 years ago, my neighbors moved into their house 4 years go and just recently insisted that we move our fence because it was 5 inched on their property--we did even though we thought this was strange-- now they want to just put a gate up against our fence without asking permission or paying for 1/2 of the fence is this legal or do we have any course of action--do we have to just let them hook up to our fence for free--I live in ohio

Re: fence line

If the fence is now completely on your property, your neighbor has no right to put anything on the property on their side of the fence which belongs to you. The fence does not establish or change the property line except in an adverse possession situation, which takes 21 years or more.
