How do you prove you next of kin?

Next of kin is determined by State Law. The law is called "the statute of descent and distribution." Where you fit on the list determines whether or not you are "the next of Kin."

I am not sure that the above answer is what you are looking for. Are you a child of the person who died and have a different name? Is someone questioning the fact that you are related to the person who died? Or do you just need to know where you stand in the order of things?
