Legal Question in Immigration Law in Oregon

US citizen marrying Ecuadorian in Ecuador.

I am a US citizen and plan on marrying an Ecuadorian. We plan on living in Ecuador. How does this affect my ability to remain in Ecuador (more then 90 days) and how does this effect my sposes ability to obtain a visa to visit the United States with me?

Re: US citizen marrying Ecuadorian in Ecuador.

Dear Inquirer:

If you are seeking extended status in Ecuador, you would need to contact the Ecuadoran Consulate in the US regarding the rules applicable to foreign nationals residing in Ecuador. Your wife would not automatically obtain a visitor's visa to come back and forth to the US. I would recommend applying for her permanent resident status in the US, which she could later relinquish to obtain a long-term visitor's visa if she does not want the green card.
