You can quit anytime you want. But the longer you wait, the more severe the consequences. Before you ship is easier than afterwards.

Although you can pursue separation from the military, the real question is do you want to? Second-thoughts are natural, and frequent. But life in the military is not all bad and there are opportunities to service members that those of us in the civilian world never enjoy.

If you are interested in pursuing separation talk to your chain of command. Keep in mind that this decision may have a long-term impact on your ability to serve your country at a later date.

If you have not shipped, there is a method by which you can write to the Recruiting commander for a release. You must communicate with the right person, that person is not the recruiter who signed you up.
