Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Pennsylvania

Inheritance Tax

I just received a statement from the Commonwealth of Pa. reguarding an inheritance tax from my deceased mother in 1999. Problem is I received no inheritance. She was in a nursing home for 3 or more years and I had to borrow money to pay for her care after the insurance run out. I was left with only bills. I could not even pay for her funeral or marker. We have only recently been out of Bankruptcy both with our business and personal. Our home is up for Sheriff Sale on Sept. 4 which will now mean we are homeless. This is an absolute insult and misuse of the law. What can we do and is there any statute for this collection.

Re: Inheritance Tax

if you did not inherit anything, then you should not owe any money. even if you did inherit something, your bankruptcy status may make you immune to the tax. you have several options that will cost you no money to get started: one is to simply call and complain to someone in Harrisburg; two is to call you local state congressman or senator and yell at somebody in their office for an explanation about why your tax dollars are being spent on this type of stuff; three call the free community legal services in your area and ask for pro bono help.

Good luck. 215.825.5183 [email protected]. Brian
