Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

civil complaint discovery order

I was served a civil complaint last thursday. credit card co is plaintiff..i am defendent and cc. co is going thru a law office. on the cover sheet where it says To be listed for arbitration the NO has and X. i received a paper in the mail 2 days later from an arbitration coordinator. now 7 days later i received a Discovery Order from the court. i'm in Pa. i have 20 days to respond to the complaint. For the last week i have contacted the lawyer referral service stated on the first page of complaint. first lawyer told me they couldnt help cause i was already served(which i told the referral service before they referred that lawyer) called them back, and the next lawyer they refer tells me he is a lawyer who is also a debt collector. i dont have money at all for a lawyer. and for 100 bucks he said he would call the lawyer on the plaintiff side, cause he knows him. he wants to get a payment plan. i dont trust a lawyer who is a debt collector to help me with this. he even told me that they wouldnt take my household things if they get a judgement..he said''we just want your money''. i want help. i dont know what a discovery order is and cant seem to get legal help here..so you are my next step. i'm running out of time to respond.

Re: civil complaint discovery order

If the Plaintiff is a collection agency acting on behalf of a credit card, you really need to try to find a way to hire an attorney. For a few hundred dollars, someone will take your case and file objections to the lawsuit. Collection agencies are very beatable in Pennsylvania.

I can't really tell you what a discovery order is without seeing it. It would be unusual to have any type of order where you have not even had a chance to respond to the complaint. Very unusual.
