Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Should I volunteer my information to the police or not?

Hello - I have a friend who was asked to come to the police station yesterday for questioning related to a crime that I know he could not have committed because I was with him for the entire duration of the time in question. He admitted that during that time, he was drunk and may not remember everything, so the police are chasing him pretty aggressively. However, I was NOT drunk and know exactly where he was. I feel that they're harassing him a bit and think they have an easy conviction here, but I KNOW he simply didn't do what he's accused of. Should I volunteer this information to the police or should I wait for them to contact me? He has not been officially charged with anything yet, so I can't get the advice of a public defender...PLEASE HELP!

It's never a good idea to talk to the police.
