Re: personal question

Theft by deception is when a person obtains the property of another by falsehood or trick. How serious it is depends on the value of the property they are accused of taking.

What are you looking at? Well, nothing since you weren't charged (unless you were involved too and this will ultimately be revealed).

Your parents should immediately get an attorney or, depending on the facts, separate attorneys.

Basically, the questions you're asking can only be answered in a general sense without knowing more facts about this specific incident with which they are being charged. With more specific information, I, or another attorney, will be able to answer you more completely.

Re: personal question

Essentially, theft by deception happens when one person holds or obtains the property of another by falsehood. It can be a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the amounts involved. It can be a serious offense leading to jail time, or it can be a minor offense easily worked out though some restitution and community service. The most important step to take is to immediately retain a criminal defense attorney.
